Post Your Rhythmbox Music to Libre.fm and Last.fm

Yesterday I was reading the instructions on how to enable scrobbling to Libre.fm using Rhythmbox. But before I show you how, allow me to introduce you to Libre.fm first.

What is Libre.fm?

Libre.fm in short simple words is “freedom music". Libre meaning freedom and “.fm” being “music". But it does not end there! Libre.fm actively supports the creation of music by independent artists and only plays music that has been licensed freely (again, by “freely” it means “freedom” / “libre” licenses).

By using libre.fm, you are guaranteed that you own your own listening data. Everything you put into Libre.fm is yours, no one else owns it, do whatever you want to your own data. Every song found on Libre.fm was made by musicians who want you to share their music!

Privacy policy? Libre.fm does not log any IP addresses. Best of all, the code behind Libre.fm is a Free/Libre Open-Source Software (FLOSS). Download the source, run it on your own server, start your own similar service - you have the freedom to do so without any fear or worry of violating anyone’s Intellectual Property rights.

Cool? Let’s begin scrobbling to Libre.fm then!

Comment Changes

Snow World website and blog is using Disqus for our comment system needs. The reason for this is mainly to make it easy to combat spam as they have a better system of doing it, and it is also easier to manage the comments.

There are no problems with b2evolution’s anti-spam system, in fact I have not seen a strong built-in anti-spam system like b2evolution’s - and that is without using Akismet yet! However, as I mentioned Disqus still has a better system and that’s the way to go.

A special note: this applies to Debian/Ubuntu-based GNU/Linux OS only. However, if you know how to run python scripts in Windows or Mac then theoretically it should be possible to do the steps below.

Let’s begin.
